Monday life

I have not been travelling these weeks, but I have gotten requests to blog about my everyday life. So I will blog a bit about today. It has been an exceptionally slow day, I usually fit much more into one day, so don’t get the impression I am this lazy.

I usually wake up early to get ready for the days challenges, but today I slept all the way until 6am(!). The first schedule was running,   here I am doing a marathon:

some hangups…

Working on my backflips…

And some pushups…

I know what you are thinking. You are really unfit, but hey, I am only a nerd, I am not supposed to be fit. After the marathon and the workout the time is usually starting to be 7am so I go for my shower and then espresso and aftenposten:

I usually have some time to shave before work (it is 1day beard, I know it looks like 3 days)

I reach work 8 sharp everyday and start the day with a more challenging newspaper

After that, working…

In lunch time I fight myself through the Dhakastreets

But we try to get as much as possible of the road in a nice park

Today we went to a restaurant called the village

But I am fine with that

After work it is time for language course:

As usually I tok a rickshaw from the course to Nordic Club. I eat my dinner there.

At this time it is pitch black in Dhaka. As traffic decreases and silence takes it place I start to feel a bit lonely. I exchange a few words with my rickshaw-walla at the way home, but we usually don’t understand each other. When I get home to my apartment I tend to look out the window and find the star farthest north east, hoping Maria is looking at the same star from London…

But as every romantic nerd I suddenly find some issues with this, I will blog more about them next time.

Picnic?

This weekend our Vizrt office in Bangladesh had it’s annual picnic. A picnic in Bangladesh does not consist  of the usual ingredients: carpet, park, 2-5 people and a bottle of wine,  but a boat, 50 people and entertainment in the form of jokes, acts and competitions.

Early in the morning our driver picked us up and we were ready to go.

I had woken up really early only to learn that in Bangladesh 7 sharp means between 8 and 9. But after a long hour waiting some buses picked us up and drove us to the river. There, the cruise ship waited for us (I did not notice how much like a tourist I looked like before I saw this picture).

The cruise ship had a nice kitchen:

For about half an hour I was fascinated by the boats manoeuvring system:

And for some time I was entertained by all the strange vessels passing by:

…but that was only one of 12 hours. After that it got, I have to admit, a bit boring. It was like a Norwegian ferry without vestlandslefse or kronespill. The Bangladeshi however seemed to really enjoy it:

But I did not understand to much of their Bengali.

They included me as well. Here I am complaining over a mosquito bite somewhere inappropriate.

It was fun for a while, but it lasted so long. When I got home I was more then ready for a crazy good desert at nordic club:

…and a whisky:

DSC_0166mmm, YES! There is a god.

Hartal

Even though the title suggest that this post will be exiting, it will not. Hartal means staying inside for own safety. This week the hartal lasted for 3 days. So it is not much to say. I have read some books, played some games and tried to make my christmas present work:

After all the hartal stuff was finished we got a visit from one a guy working with Viz Libero. After the presentation we went to a great thai resturant near our office which Thii and I somehow have missed during all our lunch hunts. It had a nice Dhaka view:
